Responding to the site the home utilizes horizontal forms set within the existing tree canopy of a large lot in the memorial area of Houston.  Integrating nature was an important goal.  Views expand toward the backyard and open up the home to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor space. The master bath establishes a feeling of sanctuary with views out.  Natural materials such as wood, metal, and stone are used throughout the interior and exterior to create a warm modern, livable feeling, demonstrating that clean modern design can be approachable for everyday life.  Mid-century modern inspired living space expands to the backyard though large sliding doors.  

The living kitchen and dining areas flow together in an open plan yet the spaces are defined by interior elements giving them their own identities within the space.  The fireplace with natural textured stone and wood elements separates the dining and living while adding a warm modern feeling to the space also inspired by mid-century modern details.   Home to a family with an active lifestyle and three kids, the home features four family bedrooms as well as one guest bedroom.  Additional spaces include a home gym, an office, a study room for the kids and game room.  

Complementing the large amount of natural light, the home also includes unique lighting features such as flush linear LED lighting channels and lighting effects. The home includes a variety of sustainable features including low-e insulated thermally broken windows, spray foam insulation, high performance AC system, recessed LED lighting with lighting controls throughout the home, and low flow plumbing fixtures.  This project combines design and craftsmanship to produce a home that is both aesthetic and functional, centered around outdoor space and family lifestyle, that blends with its surroundings in the Piney Point memorial area.
