Duravit Names Winner in Third Annual Designer Dream Bath Competition
Program’s Third Iteration Includes Winners for Both Built and Unbuilt Categories.
Duravit has selected the winners for its third Designer Dream Bath Competition. For the Unbuilt project category, receiving a prize of $10,000 in Duravit products to make his vision a reality, is Mark Mangapora of Fenton, MI. In the Built project category, Houston-based firm Intexure was the winner and will receive $5,000 worth of Duravit product for their modern clean aesthetic. Honorable Mentions were also selected in both fields: District 2 Design and StudioTJOA for Unbuilt, and Studio Habeas Corpus and Robert Jamieson for Built.
The Unbuilt category tasked designers with reimagining their own bathroom using Duravit’s latest collection launches: Cape Cod, ME by Starck, and L-Cube. Designers then submitted pictures of their current spaces and renderings that explored how they would incorporate Duravit products.
Regarding winning Unbuilt submission Mark Mangapora, Duravit USA President Tim Schroeder notes, “Mark put an immense amount of thought into his submission. He applied all three Duravit collections in creative ways to solve the design problems his bathroom presented, and integrated texture and light to add warmth to the space.”
Mangapora’s design shifts the layout of the bathroom to create newly useable space. A ME by Starck tub and shower tray create a wet room zone, and elegant Cape Cod washbasins on top of sleek L-Cube furniture in Mediterranean Oak complement the space with modern lines. L-Cube tall cabinets are also used to provide additional storage space.
In the Built category, which asked architects and designers to submit a project they worked on highlighting Duravit, Intexure’s Houston house made splash with the judging panel. All of the home’s bathrooms feature a range of Duravit collections and products, including Darling New, SensoWash C, Ketho, Delos, and OpenSpace. In addition to using Duravit in the bathrooms, the Intexure team also creatively applied Duravit furniture in other spaces, such as closets adjoining the bathrooms, to create a consistently clean aesthetic.
“Intexure used Duravit products in ways we’ve never seen before,” notes Schroeder. “Their outside-the-box thinking uses Duravit products to enhance their home’s modern look, all while creating useable and timeless bathrooms that work with their family’s lifestyle.”
Intexure Co-Founder Rame Hruska adds, “Duravit products were a perfect fit, achieving both the desired design aesthetic as well as functionality and craftsmanship.”
As Unbuilt category Honorable Mentions, District 2 Design used their location of Long Beach, CA to create a relaxing, ocean-inspired bathroom, while StudioTJOA drew inspiration from their Eerie, CO home by implementing rich dark woods throughout the space. Both Studio Habeas Corpus, with a whimsical bathroom tight on space but big on design, and Robert Jamieson, featuring a statement-making vanity, received Honorable Mentions in the Built category.
This year’s judging panel included Sheila Kim (Architizer), Paul Makovsky (Metropolis), Linda Lentz (Architectural Record), and Sophia Chan (VOA Associates).
