Highland Village’s transformation portended redevolpment of Frank W. Sharp’s mid-market, postwar Oak Estates subdivision just north of Highland Village. This is the most imposing architect-designed replacement house construction in Oak Estates, a juxtaposition of boldly angled wall and roof planes that contrast degrees of transparency and opacity.
Live-Work Studio
1815 Southmore Boulevard
2006, lntexure
Architects Rame and Russell Hruska designed this combination studio and house for their own practice and family. Projecting and receding bays gathered beneath an invested gable roof contain different program spaces. Offsetting the building is a simple gridded gravel terrace. Adjacent to the Live-Work Studio is Southmore Terrace, 3- and 4- story patio homes designed and developed by Intexure (2008)
House
3114 Tangley Road
2009, Dean Strombom and lntexure
Aby dividing this loft-like house into a front garage wing and taller rear block, architects Strombom and Intexure inserted it among its lower neighbors, acknowledging their architectural differences without demeaning the surroundings.
